MINI RIP CURRENT
There’s a definite art to spotting rip currents. Some are easier to spot than others. Very few look like the drawings or diagrams you’d find in a text book, running at a perfect 90 degrees off the beach. Online is a good place to start, as you can view loads of different rips quickly and start to understand what you’re looking for. Seeing them in person obviously helps. Going to a lifeguarded beach, spotting a rip and then getting the lifeguards to confirm or deny your attempt at spotting one is always a great idea, as you get quick feedback.
Here’s a mini-rip we found in west Cornwall during the summer. It’s a good start, as we quite literally walk you through it.
