RIP CURRENTS & BACKWASH

In this video, we go over rip currents (like many of our other videos) but we also touch on backwash or tidal surges. In this video, there’s a decent sized dumping wave, surging up the beach, which then surges back down the steep beach and back out. These surges can create issues for entry and exit to the water, beach goers and others, like dog walkers…if they get caught out.

I’ve also included a video at the bottom of the page. It’s done the rounds, so you may have already seen it but it does demonstrate how dangerous (typically high tide) surges can be. Especially if you imagine this in cold water and/or someone out walking in the winter, with lots of layers on.
